Site Reviews

StatueBall.gif (32744 bytes)The Sites listed below have been

reviewed by our staff of mutant

Tasmanian Wombats. They are

hereby awarded the Springer

Site Girl with Globe in Hand

Trophy for their content,

design and usefulness,

or lack of those traits.

Best Site of 1997   Around the World;

http://www.asb.com/usr/swfuchs/ateydays/80Clicks.html This is just a cool site, but only if you're into webcam images. Around the World in 80 Clicks is 80 links to 80 of the best webcams all over the world! 'Nuff said.

Best search engine   Alta Vista;

http://www.altavista.digital.com It's going to be hard to knock these boys off the block, this IS THE most powerful search engine! An improved interface and an index that digests 100 million pages, about twice as many as it's closest competitor, make this engine the one to use if you want to consistently find more documents.

Best News Site    News.com;

http://www.news.com News.com is a spin-off of C/Net's news center for the computer industry. This is a well designed site with rich colors and hot graphics. Good features on current events, good search resources and good links make this a Globe Girl Goodie.

Best Free stuff    Barry's Clip Art;

http://www.barrysclipart.com Royalty free images, thousands of them. Animation's, pictures, buttons, animals and more. All from a dozen or so artists. These will spice up any Web site. Warning, this site will take awhile to see, some pages load slow, but if your looking for something graphic, it's here for the taking.

Best prank site    ZUG;

http://www.mediashower.com/zug/pranks This, boys and girls, is an online magazine that has committed a number of pranks against the computer public. Some of their best known involve trade shows (a favorite), AOL members (why not) and pumpkins? This is a fair site with first rate content.

Best Music Site    House of Blues;

http://hob.com/ Nice site with electric content brings back images of concerts long past. This location provides graphics and backgrounds that catch the eye but don't overwhelm the content. These pages supply the hottest artists from the musical spectrum.

Best Company Site   Harley-Davidson;

http://www.harley-davidson.com/ One of my favorites, the legend. Rebel, loner, bad guy, tuff as nails, glass chewing, chain toting killer bike with an attitude. A well designed site with good photos and a general mix of public relations and flag waving glory. I want one yesterday. Where's the Rock and Roll?

Best Gaming Site   Gamespot;

http://www.ganespot.com/ Providing daily gaming news, cheats, hints, utilities, screenshots as well as an opportunity to test your wrist with the best make this an excellent source for the hard-core online gamer. Contests, patches and add-ons make it good for up-grades too.

Best File Library   ZD Net;

http://www.hotfiles.com/ Man, these sites are huge. This is an area that's tuff to judge. I can think of two dozen of the file sites that are great. ZD Hot Files gets our nod because their site is laid out well and stuff is easy to find. If you can't find it here, it's probably not around anymore.

Most Pathetic Site   Litterpan Alley;

http://www.midwest.net/scribers/dejay/ This site belongs to Roscoe, the house cat. Content is weak and the site features a camera focused on the cats litter box. The live shots are updated every ten seconds so you won't miss Roscoe in action, covering up his stuff.
